We recommend that you follow these guidelines to get the most out of your boots.

Despite modern fabric developments, much of today's footwear still depends upon
the traditional performance, durability and fit of leather. As a natural material,
leather does require some care and looking after.

  • After use always rinse off mud and dirt with plain water. Remove any stubborn dirt with a sponge, damp cloth or brush.

  • Dry your boots naturally over time in a cool, dry place with good air circulation (Never force dry your boots using heat, as this will damage the leather uppers)

  • Regularly treat them with a suitable waterproofing treatment applicable to the type of boots you have.

  • Take care to apply treatments to tongues, D. rings and hooks. Do not over treat them as this can soften the leather and damage stitching.
The most appropriate boot treatments will depend upon the materials that the boot uppers are made from. The following is a guide to the best boot treatment for each type of upper.

Calf Leathers
Use a good quality proofing agent from new. For best results we recommend treatments such as HS12 Cream, which will improve the water resiliency of the leather. Alternative treatments that can be used are Nikwax/ Aqueous Nikwax or G-Wax.

Sherpa Leathers
We strongly recommend the use of Scarpa HS12 Cream from new for this grade of leather - especially if the original leather has been HS12 or Hydrostop tanned. Alternatively, products like Aqueous Nikwax, Nikwax or G-Wax can be used.

These treatments may not soak into the leathers immediately due to the high resiliency of the tanning on surface of the leather during the tanning process. It will however begin to soak in over time as the boots become scuffed with use.

Nubuck and Crosta Leathers
Use a specialist Nubuck/Suede treatment from new. Brands like Grangers and Nikwax make good quality products for these types of leathers.

Using these treatments will tend to flatten the texturised surface finish of the leather but this finish can be restored with a suede brush. If the leather is an oiled Nubuck then we recommend the use HS12 Cream from new for best results

Anfibio and Reversed Anfibio Leathers
These are the finest leathers available to boot makers. If the boot has the tanned surface to the outer we strongly recommend the use of HS12 cream as this will fully protect the leather.

If the leather is reversed (rough side out), then we recommend the use of a suitable Nubuck/Suede treatment from reputable brands like Nikwax or Granger.

Fabric Uppers (Cordura/Suede)
These boots are made from more supple and thinner materials than full grain leathers. Generally, they will not offer the water performance, resistance or durability of a quality leather.

They do require regular care and we recommend use of Nikwax Fabric & Leather or Grangers G-Sport.
